We are excited to announce that the Austin Junior Forum has selected MAP as a 2012 grant recipient! We are very honored as this is the 2nd year in a row.
Texas Commission on the Arts has awarded MAP $3,000 for the 2011-2012 funding period (announced Sept. 13th).
The City of Austin Cultural Programs announced on Sept. 14th that MAP has been awarded a $5,200 grant for the 2011-2012 funding period!

JAN 2011: ANGEL IN THE COMMUNITY

The heart and soul of A Glimmer of Hope Austin is the love and compassion it has for young people and senior adults who suffer from exclusion, social injustice, neglect, abandonment and educational disadvantages. The foundation is committed to improving their lives by supporting initiatives that address imbalances in the areas of health care, education, life skills, fine arts, safety and basic needs. It achieves this by supporting – and working through – what it calls Angels in the Community. These angels have a passion to serve the disenfranchised and are working to make a positive difference in Austin through new and imaginative grassroots projects that empower youth and support seniors in East and South Austin.

Every year, A Glimmer of Hope selects one person to receive its Angel in the Community award. On January 20th, 2011, AGoH held it’s annual Angels in the Community Celebration during which our Founder and Executive Director, Theresa Bond Zelazny, received the honor and a $5,000 grant. AGoH was the first foundation to provide funding to MAP in 2008 with a $25,000 grant. MAP is grateful to David Porter, Phillip & Donna Berber, Rose Abeyta and all the staff of AGoH for their continued friendship and support of our program. MAY 2010: The Mutual of Omaha ‘aha’ moments campaign.

Theresa: “My aha moment would have to be when I saw how happy seniors become when they were able to sit and paint and express themselves creatively through art. It’s like watching a flower bloom – the fog of boredom is lifted and they come alive with excitement. Friendships are forged during the sessions which are extremely important to those who have been placed in a nursing homes. We want to change the way our community looks at seniors. They have wisdom and knowledge to share which is communicated through their art.”
